REPORTS TO: STREET FOREMAN
SHIFT: FT REGULAR– 40 HOURS PER WEEK
SALARY: $16.88 HOURLY/ $35,110.40 ANNUALLY
**This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Foreman, is responsible for the safe and effective operation of one or more vehicles, or pieces of equipment, involved with grading, scooping, and hauling of dirt; delivering supplies and materials; perform routine maintenance; maintain log books and report all malfunctions. Must be able to perform physical labor for sustained periods of time with exposure to the elements. This position requires a willingness to work irregular hours, weekends and holidays as necessary.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Although the following are typical of the tasks and responsibilities routinely performed, additional tasks and/or responsibilities requiring comparable or lesser skills, knowledge, or dexterity may be assigned.
The regular work week is 40 hours - Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Additional time may be required to work after regular hours, on weekends, and holidays.

- The safe, efficient and effective operation of front-end loaders (in excess of 8 tons) as well as various trucks and pieces of equipment such as a back-hoe, tractor, dump truck, chip spreader, oiler, street sweeper and related equipment. Training is provided.
- In addition, performs routine servicing of vehicles and equipment such as changing oil, lubrication, fixing flats, changing filters, pumping gas, washing, cleaning and painting.
- Maintains log books and report all malfunctions immediately.
- Perform routine cleaning as directed.
- On-call responsibilities for after- hours duties.
- Some ability to learn the principles and practices of street construction and maintenance.
- Previous experience desired, but not required.
- Current New Mexico Driver’s License required.
- New Mexico CDL, Class B License with airbrakes and tanker endorsement required.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Show aptitude for safe operation of assigned automotive equipment.
- Must follow instructions, procedures and City safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to follow through on work assignments.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, driving or riding in vehicles.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
- Frequently squatting, bending, twisting, climbing and kneeling required.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, and crawl and work in confined spaces.
- Noise level could be moderate to loud in work environment.
- Ability to drive, occasional long distances.
- Work with machinery.
- Must possess ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/ or situations.
- Primarily works outside. Inside work necessary if needed.
- May be exposed to dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
- Limited travel – ability to travel for meetings, training or workshops may be required.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Must pass a background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.
- Must pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
- This position requires all Commercial Driver’s Licensed candidates register in the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse at https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/register and click Go to login.gov.
- Candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City’s insurance carrier.
- Must complete and pass a physical given by a licensed practitioner to receive and retain Commercial Driver’s License.
- Employees must maintain a source of communication for off duty work related communications.
- Random drug and alcohol testing is a condition of employment and will be tested under the authority of the FMCSA.
